This behavior occurs because software updates have to be installed in the order they were released.
When a software update is made available it includes applicability information; which version/series of Maximizer Enterprise and MaxExchange Synchronization must be installed before applying the software update.
In an environment that has Maximizer Enterprise installed with the latest software update (for example Maximizer Enterprise 9 Service Pack 2 for Service Release 2) and you wish to add MaxExchange Synchronization Server then the following steps are to be followed.
WORKAROUND
- Determine which series of Maximizer Enterprise is applicable with the MaxExchange Synchronization Server software update being applied.

- Uninstall Maximizer Enterprise software updates (in reverse order they were applied) until Maximizer Enterprise is at the required series.
Maximizer Enterprise software updates are removed from Add/Remove Programs (found under Control Panel).
- Apply the MaxExchange Synchronization software update.
- Alternately apply software updates for Maximizer Enterprise and MaxExchange Synchronization Server until all software updates have been applied.
