Access to Dashboard is Denied When Attempting to Access a Dashboard

Problem

If you are attempting to use Internet Information Services (IIS) 7 on Windows Server 2008, you get the following message when trying to view dashboards in the My Work Day window:

Access to Dashboard is Denied: Cannot open database requested by the login. The login failed.

Solution

One possible cause of the dashboards not displaying properly is the configuration of the Kind and KindAsp applications in the Internet Information Services (II) Manager. Below are steps to configure the Kind and KindAsp applications for IIS 7.

  1. Go to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager
  2. Expand the Server and go to the Sites folder. Select Default Web Site.
  3. Select View Applications
  4. Select the /Kind application.
  5. Under Actions, select Basic Settings.
  6. In the Edit Application dialog, click the Select button. In the Select Application Pool dialog, choose the Classic .NET AppPool from the Application pool drop down and click OK. Click OK to save the settings.
  7. Under Manage Application, select Advanced Settings.
  8. In the Physical Path Credentials field, you can do one of the following:
    1. Select a user that has rights to the database
    2. Specify a Windows user. Then add the Windows user as a SQL Logon and add it to the database with Public and CRMGroup roles.
  9. In the main window, under the IIS heading, select Double click Authentication.
  10. Enable Anonymous Authentication.
  11. Select the /KindAsp application and repeat steps 5 to 10
