Sharing Folders and Network Direct Transport
If you plan to use the Network Direct transport method, you
must set up a network share for the MaxExchange installed
folder. By default, this folder is
C:\Program Files\Maximizer\MaxExchange, where the
MaxExchange program files are installed. This should be
done on the server and all remotes immediately after
installation. The process simplifies the initial
configuration of MaxExchange Site Manager.
MaxExchange Server TCP/IP Settings and IP Address
We strongly recommend that you verify your MaxExchange
Server TCP/IP settings and static IP address before you
begin configuration of Remote computers with FTP transport.
Ensure that your MaxExchange Server TCP/IP settings for
either your TCP/IP Dial-up Adapter and Network Interface
Card specify a static IP address. To verify this, go to
Control Panel and select Network. From the Configuration
tab dialog, select either the TCP/IP Adapter or TCP/IP NIC
components from the components list. Click Properties. In
the IP Address tab, ensure that the "Specify an IP address"
radio button is selected with the correct IP address in the
field below.
To test the Server IP address, have a Remote machine
attempt to "ping" the Server at the above IP address before
any MaxExchange FTP configuration. The Remote machine must
have TCP/IP enabled as well. On the Remote computer,
proceed to a DOS (Command) prompt. At the command prompt,
type: ping [Server IP address], and press Enter. If the
ping fails, there is either an addressing problem or the
TCP/IP protocol is not set up correctly.
Email Transport Using MaxExchange
If email is your chosen transport method and you use
Microsoft Outlook, the Collaboration Data Objects component
must be installed with the email application on the
computer running MaxExchange Server. If you are using
Microsoft Outlook 2007, you must download Collaboration
Data Objects from the Microsoft website. If you are using a
previous version of Outlook, you can install the component
from your email application CD.
If you are running MaxExchange as a service, you must also
ensure the service is logged in as the user who is
configured for the email client, and the user must have
administrator rights.
If you are using Outlook Express for email transport, you
must also set a security option by going to Tools > Options
in Outlook Express, clicking the Security tab, and clearing
the "Warn me when other applications try to send mail as
me" option.
MaxExchange Service Issues
If you install MaxExchange Server as a service and are
experiencing problems with the service starting, check the
Application Log in the Windows Event Viewer (Programs >
Administrative Tools > Event Viewer) and take the necessary
action to resolve the problem.
Accessing MaxExchange Server Manager on the Internet
To access MaxExchange Server Manager on the Internet, you
must use a VPN connection.
MaxExchange Distribution Field
In previous releases, the MaxExchange Distribution field
was called *MaxExchange Distribution. Custom reports
created using Crystal Reports or custom integration created
using the previous name may no longer work.
Assigning Distribution Groups to Address Book Entries
If a Company or an Individual is created on the remote and
no distribution group is assigned to it, it is synchronized
to the server. However, it is removed from the distribution
site the next time packets are received from the server.
Upgrading when Using Email Transport
If you are upgrading from a previous version and you are
using email as your transport method, the email address
must be re-entered in the Server Settings dialog box in
MaxExchange Site Manager after you install the new version.
Other transport method settings are maintained.
Important Upgrade Considerations
See the Upgrading from Previous Versions of MaxExchange
topic in the Administrator's Guide for important issues and
considerations for upgrading MaxExchange.
Cannot Set Maximum Uncompressed Packet Size for First Remote
When adding a remote in MaxExchange Site Manager for the
first time, the "Maximum uncompressed packet size when
sending to this remote" setting is disabled. This setting
becomes enabled after processing with MaxExchange Server
for the first time.
This issue applies to the first remote only. Additional
remotes have this setting enabled immediately after
creation.
If you want to use this setting, consider creating the
first remote as a test remote only.
Modified Documents Not Synchronized in Mixed Mode
In a mixed version environment, when a remote from a
previous version modifies a document and synchronizes to
the server, the modified document does not synchronize.
MaxExchange Service and Windows Authentication
If you are running MaxExchange Synchronization Server as a
Windows service and you are using SQL Server Windows
Authentication, you must ensure the service is logged in as
a user who has the proper rights for Microsoft SQL Server
(dbcreator and securityadmin server roles and also the
db_owner database role for each Address Book you are
synchronizing).
Upgrading MaxExchange Server when Using HTTP Transport
If you upgrade the MaxExchange Synchronization Server from
version 9.5 or earlier without upgrading the remotes, any
remotes running the older version of MaxExchange will not
be able to connect to the upgraded server using the HTTP
transport method. All other transport methods work properly
in a mixed-mode environment.
