Overview

This article provides information that is not described in the Maximizer documentation.

Two versions of the Maximizer ODBC Driver File

There are two versions of the Maximizer ODBC driver .dll file:

..\Program Files\Common Files\Maximizer\MxzBtr32.dll
..\Program Files\Common Files\Maximizer\MxzBtr32NonIndexed.dll

The default version of the .dll is indexed and works with DAO. The alternate version of the .dll is non-indexed and works with Microsoft Access. Microsoft Access requires the non-indexed version of the .dll because of an issue with MsJet40.dll.
  • MxzBtr32.dll
This is the default ODBC file, which contains indexing information.
  • MxzBtr32NonIndexed.dll
If Microsoft Access gives you an "Invalid argument" error when you attempt to link to Maximizer ODBC tables, you need to use the non-indexed version of the Maximizer ODBC driver instead of the default indexed version. To use this file, first rename MxzBtr32.dll to MxzBtr32indexed.dll, and then rename MxzBtr32NonIndexed.dll to MxzBtr32.dll. You will then be using the non-indexed version of the Maximizer ODBC driver, and you can use it to link to ODBC tables in Microsoft Access.

ActiveX Component Download in Reporter

When you first view a report using Maximizer Reporter, you will be prompted by a "Security Warning" to download the "Crystal Report Viewer for ActiveX". Click "Yes" when you see this message. Once this ActiveX component is downloaded, you will not be prompted with this message again.

MaxExchange Remote Network Disconnection

An issue occurs when a remote user (MaxExchange Remote) connects to a network database, then exits Maximizer and disconnects from the network without first logging out of the database. The next time the user opens Maximizer and does not log into the network, the computer appears to freeze. What is actually occurring is that Maximizer is attempting to connect to the network database. An error message appears after the timeout period has lapsed. To solve this issue, a remote user must log out of the database before exiting Maximizer.

Printing Calendar Books from Windows XP

There are some calendar book setups that may cause an error message to occur when printing. For example, the Day-Timer Continuous B (Jr.) Wire-Bound Pocket (2-3/8 x 5 in.) setup may cause the error to occur. This issue is related to only specific printer drivers.

Resolving Database Conversion Errors

If Administrator produces an error during conversion, it's possible this is due to stored procedures in your database that have a null owner. To resolve this problem, execute the script 'ToolsRemoveNullOwnerSPs.sql' installed in the Dbscripts\Sqlserver folder in your Maximizer installed folder, and then perform the conversion again.

WinFax 10 and Windows 2000 Merge to Fax

When performing mail merges to fax using WinFax 10 with Windows 2000, a problem may occur where all faxes do not get sent. To resolve this problem, go to the Advanced tab in WinFax properties and choose the "Print directly to printer" option rather than using the "Spool print documents so program finishes printing faster" option.

Using Email in Maximizer with Outlook XP or Higher

When you are using Outlook XP or higher as your default email client, you may encounter the following issues:
  • Email remains in your Outbox when an email is sent from Maximizer using the Maximizer compose dialog box.
  • Clicking the Deliver button in Maximizer does not deliver incoming email. Clicking the Send/Receive button in Outlook does deliver the email messages.
  • Double-clicking an email in Maximizer does not open the email.
  • Replying to an email using Outlook's dialog box does not send the email and it then appears in your Inbox.
The resolution to all of these issues is to have Outlook open when using email functionality in Maximizer. You must also click the Send/Receive button as described for the second issue listed here to deliver email messages in Maximizer.

WebControls Installed with Customer and Partner Access

The Microsoft Internet Explorer WebControls application is installed with Customer and Partner Access, and is available from the Windows Start menu.

Outlook Appointments Spanning Multiple Days

When synchronized appointments created in Outlook, which span over multiple days, Maximizer displays only the date when the appointment was started in the Appointment dialog box and Calendar window. Maximizer does not support multiple-day appointments.

Number of Entries Visible in Favorite Lists

If you delete an Address Book entry, the number of entries visible in affected Favorite Lists may not be accurate. Also, all entries may not be visible to the logged-in user depending on entry ownership.

Blackberry Emulation Mode Setting

In order to support multi-line text controls on a Blackberry in emulation mode, the browser settings must be set to Microsoft Internet Explorer or Microsoft Pocket Internet Explorer.

Escona Tutorial Passwords

In version 9.5, passwords in the Escona Tutorial sample Address Book were changed from "password" to "maximizer". As a result, passwords may need to be synchronized after installing the sample database.

To synchronize passwords, follow these steps:
  1. Open the Escona Tutorial Address Book in Administrator.
  2. Select Utilities > System Configurations.
  3. Click the Synchronize button.

Pop-up Blocker Issue with Web Access Sites

If script errors appear when using web access sites with Windows XP, Windows 2003, or Windows Vista, follow these steps to resolve the issue:
  1. In Internet Explorer, open any web access site login page.
  2. Select the web access site URL from the Address Bar and copy it to the clipboard (CTRL-C).
  3. Select "Internet Options" from the Tools menu.
  4. Click on the Privacy tab.
  5. If the "Block pop-ups" is checked, click on Settings, paste the web access site URL into the text box, click Add, and then Close.

Appointment Synchronization

If you are using Microsoft Outlook or MaxSync for Microsoft Exchange synchronization for your appointments, after upgrading an Address Book, the first synchronization may take longer than usual. This is due to the changes for appointments in this release.

Checking Database Size Before Upgrading Address Books

The maximum database size for the workgroup database engine (Microsoft SQL Server Express) is 4GB. You can use the Database Sizing Estimator tool, which is launched during installation, to estimate the upgraded database sizes of affected Address Books and ensure that this limitation is not exceeded.

Macros and Windows Vista

If your computer is running Windows Vista, you cannot record or run Maximizer macros. Please visit the Maximizer Knowledge Base (www.maximizer.com/knowledgebase) for updates on this issue.

Viewing Email in Maximizer Web Access

A MAPI client (Microsoft Outlook) must be installed on the server and users must have the MAPI client (Microsoft Outlook) set as the default mail client in order to view email messages from the Documents window of an entry in Maximizer Web Access.

XML Import/Export of Email Messages

When importing or exporting data using XML, email messages saved in the Documents tab are not imported/exported.

Maximizer IIS Components and Windows 2008 Server

If you are using Windows 2008 Server, you must enable the .NET Framework feature in order to install Maximizer IIS components.

To enable the .NET Framework feature, follow these steps:
  1. In the Control Panel, open Programs and Features.
  2. Click on the Turn Windows features on or off option.
  3. Click on Features and then click Add Features.
  4. Select the Microsoft .NET Framework feature.
  5. Click OK.

SMTP Server with TLS in Maximizer Web Access

If you are using a SMTP email server with TLS in Maximizer Web Access, you must ensure the following:
  1. The "Start Basic Authentication works after TLS" option in Microsoft Exchange (or the equivalent option in other programs) is not selected.
  2. The SMTP server uses a different port from SSL. By default, Maximizer uses port number 25 for the SMTP server.
