 |
| |
Question |
| |
This article provides information on how to import an ACT! contact management database directly into Maximizer. This article has the following sections: Supported ACT! Databases; ACT! Database Preparation; Importing ACT! Database.
|

| |
Answer |
| |
For ACT! data, an auto-detection feature has been implemented in MaxPort which automatically detects the version in which your database was created.
Before you begin the import process, back up your existing target Maximizer Address Book folder, if you have one.
RESOLUTION
- Supported ACT! Databases
Maximizer and Maximizer Enterprise support importing ACT! databases from ACT! 1.x to ACT! by Sage 2006. See Maximizer Supported products web page and check the Import section for the latest list of supported ACT! databases..
- ACT! Database Preparation
Prepare the ACT! database before importing into Maximizer. Make sure the ACT! database is not compressed and free of data corruption issue. See ACT! Database Preparation for a complete outline.
- Importing ACT! Database
Now that the ACT! database is ready to be imported into Maximizer, close all connections to the ACT! database and the target Maximizer Address Book.
- If importing ACT! 2005, ACT! 2005 Premium for Workgroups, ACT! by Sage 2006, or ACT! by Sage Premium for Workgroups 2006 into Maximizer Enterprise 9 (Pervasive) then see the following Knowledge Base article for detailed steps on How-To: Import ACT! 2005 or ACT! 2005 Premium for Workgroups database
Note: Maximizer Enterprise 9 Service Release 1 is required to import ACT! by Sage 2006 or ACT! by Sage Premuim for Workgroups 2006. Use the ACT! 2005 or ACT! 2005 Premium for Workgroups menu.
- If importing ACT! 2005, ACT! 2005 Premium for Workgroups, ACT! by Sage 2006, or ACT! by Sage Premium for Workgroups 2006 into Maximizer Enterprise 9 (SQL) then:
- Open Administrator.
- Click File > Import > ACT! 2005 and ACT! 2005 Premium for Workgroups
- Click OK on the message box.
- Click the Machine Data Source tab, select the DSN for the ACT! database to import and then click OK. You will be prompted for the sa password.
- Enter the sa password, and click OK.
Maximizer begins importing the data.
- If importing an ACT! 6.x or earlier Database
- Open Administrator.
- Click File > Import > Other Contact Manager Database. MaxPort is launched and the Import Databases dialog appears. The file format of an ACT! database (.dbf) is automatically selected for you.
- Locate the file you are importing. If the file is a network file, click the network button or use the Drives field drop-down list to access your folder.
- In the Import Options group box, select the Log Errors to File option if you want to log all errors that occur during the import process to a text file. All other options in the Import Options group box are handled automatically by MaxPort. The Date Format and Delimiter buttons apply only to character delimited ASCII (.txt) files.
- Specify how you want duplicate records handled. Your options include: Do Not Check for Duplicates or Combine Companies with Same Name.
When you’re finished specifying the duplicate records options, click OK. If duplicate records are found in your data, the option you select here determines whether duplicate records are combined or not. They will be added to your Address Book folder. The Select Target Address Book Folder dialog box appears.
Maximizer requires that each Address Book entry be assigned a unique Address Book Entry ID. If the import record contains an Address Book Entry ID that is the same as an existing Maximizer Company, Individual, or Contact, the Address Book Entry ID of the imported entry is automatically changed when that entry is added to Maximizer and this action is recorded in the import error message file.
- From the list of available databases, select the Address Book folder that is to receive the imported ACT! data. To create a new Address Book folder to receive the imported data, click the New button.
- The import process starts immediately. During the import process a status indicator will appear on your screen. Click on Cancel if you want to halt the import process.
- Once MaxPort imports the data from the import file into Maximizer, the Conversion Completed or Import Completed message box appears displaying the number of fields read, imported, skipped, failed, merged and the number of records with associated import warnings. Click OK to close the message box.
- The Errorlog.txt file appears in the same folder as your import file. Unless MaxPort reports that all records were imported successfully, carefully review the ERRORLOG.TXT file to identify and resolve import problems.
